Norwegian Quality Improvement of laboratory examinations (Noklus) is a national not for profit organisation with headquarters in Bergen. Our laboratory consultants and medical specialists are based at local hospitals throughout the country. We aim to ensure that all laboratory examinations that are ordered, performed and interpreted will safeguard the patients’ needs for investigation, treatment and follow-up. Noklus offers services to all Norwegian GP surgeries, hospital- and private medical laboratories, nursing homes and other health care institutions.
Noklus was established in 1992 and all the services we offer to GP offices are funded by the Norwegian Medical Association through a quality improvement fund.
As of 2017 Norwegian Quality Improvement of Primary Health Care Laboratories (Noklus) and Norwegian Clinical Chemistry EQA Program (NKK) have merged into one organization, and we changed our name to "Norwegian Quality Improvement of laboratory examinations (Noklus).
Noklus is governed by a management committee consisting of representatives from the Norwegian Government, the Norwegian Medical Association and the Norwegian Society of Medical Biochemistry. The Norwegian Association of Local and Regional Authorities (KS) has an observer role in the committee.
We provide guidance and tuition through site visits, telephone, email, consultations and courses to all participants outside of hospital. We advise on the selection of control material and on the choice of methods.
Noklus offers access to internal quality control procedures and schemes as well as reports compiled on the basis of data based on data excerpts from medical records.
All Noklus participants are offered access to our external quality assessment (EQA) programme. Our objective is to offer EQAs for all examinations that are carried out by at least 50 of our participants.
Noklus is certified according to NS-EN ISO 9001:2015.
