NOKLUS’ aim is to ensure that, when laboratory analyses are ordered performed and interpreted outside hospital this takes place in accordance with the patients’ needs for investigation, treatment and follow-up.
NOKLUS uses the following measures to achieve this: an external quality assessment program for the majority of analyses carried out in the primary health services, tests of instruments, tests of equipment for home measurement of glucose, and improvements in the quality of requesting routines and interpreting the results of analyses.
In each county in Norway, there are laboratory consultants (Biomedical Laboratory Scientists) who provide the participant personnel with guidance and instruction regarding procedures. This includes visiting, telephone conversations and courses.
